WATCH NOW – Skirts on Sacred Benches

Recorded live in the Legislative Assembly chamber to a sold-out crowd, Skirts on Sacred Benches is a special event celebrating the centenary of the 1925 election of Millicent Preston-Stanley, NSW Parliament’s first female member.

Featuring:
  • A keynote from former High Court and Supreme Court judge, The Hon. Virginia Bell AC, SC, exploring the lasting impact of the NSW Women’s Legal Status Act of 1918 and, indeed, the legacy of Preston-Stanley.

  • A lively and dramatic historical re-enactment of Preston-Stanley’s motion to improve rights for women with the Guardianship of Infants Bill

Thank you to Justice Bell, the Hon. Greg Piper MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and our cast of performers for bringing history to life!

This event was proudly delivered by the NSW Parliamentary Education and Engagement team.
