Visit Us at Our House celebrates 10 years!

NSW Parliament’s Education and Engagement team is dedicated to telling the story of Australia’s oldest parliament in unique ways to educate and inspire young people.

That’s why we’re proud to celebrate 10 years of Visit Us at Our House, our live and interactive civics education program for Years 5 and 6 students!

Since 2015, the program has reached more than 60,000 primary school students across NSW – around 1,200 schools in total!

More than 600 schools have been from regional and rural locations, underscoring the driving force behind the program: giving students, no matter where they live, an accessible way to engage with Parliament.

The program also shatters the perception that learning about the legislature and government has to be boring! The high energy, use of props and comedy you see in the program would not be possible without our Presenter John Lamzies, who has facilitated the program since its inception. We thank him immensely for his passion and dedication to his role.

“I like to call myself a curiosity facilitator in that I use students’ innate curiosity to draw them into a subject matter they might have never come across before,” said John, a former educator himself.

“When I think about 10 years that I’ve been allowed to teach students this way, I feel very fortunate, and I’ll always treasure the time I’ve had here.”

We’re excited to welcome two new presenters in 2025 to help bring this popular educational experience to even more students.
