Proclamation of the Monarch

Proclamation of the Monarch

Accession describes the event of the new Sovereign taking the throne upon the death of the previous King or Queen.

The new Sovereign succeeds to the throne as soon as his or her predecessor dies and is proclaimed as soon as possible at an Accession Council in London.

The death of Her Majesty The Queen resulted in the proclamation of the accession of His Majesty The King, Charles the III, King of Australia.

On 11 September 2022, the Governor of NSW presided at a meeting of the Executive Council at Government House where the Premier of NSW Dominic Perrottet, joined by Ministers of the Government, recommended that Her Excellency proclaim King Charles III as King of Australia. The Governor accepted the recommendation.

In the afternoon, Her Excellency read the Proclamation at NSW Parliament House proclaiming Prince Charles to be King Charles the III, by the Grace of God King of Australia and his other Realms and Territories.
