About the program
This civics and citizenship program offers Year 12 student leaders the opportunity to develop their knowledge of our system of government and parliamentary proceedings, and the role of the Governor of NSW.
The program, which is held on seven specific dates set by the Governor in collaboration with the Parliament, includes a visit to Government House, a meeting with the Governor and a visit to the Parliament of NSW and a meeting with the member of the school’s electorate. In addition, the program is held on sitting days to facilitate members being able to engage with students from their electorates. All schools in NSW are invited on an allocated date. Schools are asked to nominate two school leaders/captains.
Each year we email school principals inviting them to send two school leaders to participate in the Secondary Schools Leadership program. Schools are invited to the program on the date allocated to their electorate. For the 2027 program, due to the NSW State Election being held on Saturday 13 March, email invitations will be sent to schools as soon as we confirm Sitting Dates in early Term 2. (In all other years, schools will receive an invitation in February of each school year.)
