Question Time with Visit Us at Our House Presenters Matt and Lib

The NSW Parliamentary Education team is excited to introduce our new Visit Us at Our House presenters, Matt Abotomey and Lib Campbell!

Visit Us at Our House is our free, interactive live scheduled program based on the History K–6 NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship.

Both Matt and Lib have a wealth of experience bringing education and history to life as performers at some of Sydney’s oldest institutions.

We recently sat down to learn more from them and what they hope to bring to the program.

Tell us about your background and experience

I studied performance and history at the University of Wollongong. Between stringing together independent theatre gigs, I also work at the Anzac Memorial with the Learning Team.

How does it feel to join the team as one of our presenters?

Feels great! I imagine the real Serjeant-at-Arms and the Usher of the Black Rod sweat a little less than I do pretending to be them but it’s wonderful fun.

What do you think it’s important that young people learn about how our democracy works?

So they know they have an important and ongoing place in it.

What do you hope to bring to the role?

A (hopefully) galvanising enthusiasm.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

The scoundrel Billy Dee Williams and I share a birthday!

Tell us about your background and experience

I am an actor and TV presenter having worked in theatre, film and television both here and in the United States. I’m also a history buff and conduct guided tours through some of Sydney’s oldest buildings.

How does it feel to join the team as one of our presenters?

It feels wonderful to join the education team at NSW Parliament. Such a supportive team and a fascinating place to work!

What do you think it’s important that young people learn about how our democracy works?

I think it’s vital that young people know how our democracy works – they need to know that their voice matters, their vote matters, and they matter.

What do you hope to bring to the role?

I hope to bring a bit of fun to what can seem a dry topic when reading from a textbook and inspire some conversation between students once the program has finished.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I used to be a professional clown.
