Petition

A document presented through a member to a House of Parliament by a person or group of people seeking action on a matter. Petitions are signed by people who support the issue and can end up being very large, with thousands of signatures. The Parliament receives the petitions and advises the Government that they have been received. Larger petitions receive a Government response; very large petitions (10,000 signatures or more) to the Legislative Assembly are the subject of a debate in the House.
